Privacy policy

Taniwha Jacket Ltd. ("we," "us," "our") collects and uses your personal information to run our online store. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what your rights are. It's drafted to comply with the Privacy Act 2020 (New Zealand).

Information we collect

Account and order information: name, email address, billing and shipping address, phone number, payment information (processed by Shopify Payments — we never see your card details).

Browsing information: pages visited, device type, IP address, cookies, referral source. Collected automatically for analytics.

Marketing information: if you sign up to our mailing list, we'll store your email address and any preferences you tell us about.

Communications: if you email or message us, we keep a record of the conversation.

How we use your information

To process and ship your orders, respond to your enquiries, send transactional emails (order confirmation, dispatch notification), send marketing emails only if you've opted in, analyse site performance and improve the store, prevent fraud, and comply with NZ law.

Who we share it with

We share the minimum amount of information needed with Shopify (our store platform, hosted in the US), Shopify Payments / Stripe (payment processing), NZ Post and our courier partners, Printify (our production partner — they receive your shipping address to fulfil your order), Klaviyo if we use them for email marketing, and Google Analytics (anonymised browsing data only).

We never sell your data. We never share your data with third parties for their marketing purposes.

Cookies

We use cookies to remember your cart, keep you logged in, and measure site performance. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the site may not work properly.

Your rights under the Privacy Act 2020

You have the right to see what personal information we hold about you, correct information that's wrong, have your information deleted (subject to record-keeping obligations under tax law), unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time, and make a complaint to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner if you think we've mishandled your data.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@taniwhajacket.com. We'll respond within 20 working days.

Data security

We use industry-standard security to protect your information, including TLS encryption on all pages and tokenised payment processing. No system is 100% secure — if we ever experience a breach affecting your data, we'll notify you and the Privacy Commissioner as required by law.

Children

Our store is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date below will reflect any changes. For material changes, we'll notify you by email if we have your address.
